The Ganesh Puja, or the Griha Shanti in Gujarati families, is held before anything else begins, usually the morning of the first day and sometimes the evening before. It is family only, it takes an hour or two, and it happens in a room rather than in an event space. Its real consequence is the calendar: the immediate family has to be in Marrakech a day earlier than everyone else.
Where it is actually held
A suite, a private salon or a quiet garden corner. Not the courtyard the Sangeet is being built in, and not a space anyone is walking through. Twenty to forty people sit on the floor around the pandit, so the requirement is a clean floor, a door, and no production noise on the other side of the wall.
Most properties will give you a room for this without it appearing in the contract as an event. Ask anyway, because on day one the build crews are already in and every quiet space has a generator behind it.
What the pandit needs, and where it comes from
Half of it is bought in Marrakech without difficulty and half of it travels with the family. Agreeing which is which, eight weeks out, is the whole job.

It sets when the family flies
If the puja is on the morning of day one, the immediate family lands on day zero, which for most routings means leaving home two days before the wedding week starts. That is two extra hotel nights for twenty or thirty people and it is routinely missed at the budget stage.
Tell the family the date of the puja at the same time you tell them the date of the wedding, not later. It is the difference between a calm first morning and a grandmother arriving from the airport into a ceremony.
The fire, indoors
Where the puja includes a small havan, it is a fire in a room, and that is a conversation with the venue rather than an assumption. Most will permit it in a suite with the windows open and a fire extinguisher present, some will insist on an outdoor terrace, and a few will decline.
Ask when you ask about the mandap fire, not separately. The answer is often different for the two, because one is outdoors and one is under a smoke detector.
